Clocks

Clocks - short for Classroom Occupancy System - is the groundbreaking 'campus intelligence' solution developed by our partners, Lone Rooftop.  It utilises Lone Rooftop's Position Intelligence Engine (PIE) to calculate the position of people inside a building, primarily using existing WiFi networks.  It tracks room occupancy in real-time and delivers essential usage metrics through an easy-to-use, graphical Dashboard.

Smarter room allocation

Complexity and timetabling go hand-in-hand.  Scheduling thousands of classes across hundreds of teaching spaces is a challenge in itself; doing it optimally is another matter altogether.  Clocks provides your timetabling teams and estate managers with insightful and actionable intelligence on space utilisation.

Clocks integrates with Syllabus+ Enterprise to give you real-time data that shows how space is actually being used, versus planned classes.  Use these insights to realise significant cost- and space-savings, by addressing smaller-than-planned and shorter-than-planned classes - or complete no-shows.

Create space with data, not bricks

Institutions are increasingly reaching the limits of their teaching capacity.  Growth in student numbers frequently outpaces capital building programmes.  Creating new buildings is expensive, time-consuming, and not always possible.

The ability for universities to gain accurate usage data for buildings, rooms and teaching spaces drives more efficient scheduling of rooms and resources, significantly reducing costs – including the building of unnecessary additional space. Clocks enables you to schedule more activities and increase student numbers, all within your existing building capacity.

Anonymous, secure, and built on your existing infrastructure

Based on location data that is anonymously sourced from existing WiFi networks, Lone Rooftop's PIE technology is able to calculate the specific location of people in all parts of buildings.  Their devices can, but don’t have to be connected to the university network.  By measuring the differences in signal strength, PIE can accurately determine the position of these devices.  PIE’s smart algorithms translate the number of devices into the number people and their respective positions, so one person with multiple devices is only counted as one person.

PIE works with all types of sensors including beacons, workspace sensors, motion detectors and access control systems.  It is compatible with Cisco and HP Aruba networks, and Lone Rooftop has acquired the enviable status of Preferred Solution Partner for those networks.  Additionally, Lone Rooftop has established partnerships with IT Infrastructure specialists such as BT and Axians, who are actively supporting the implementation of PIE.

  • More classes, more students, same space
  • Schedule smarter by seeing actual vs planned use of space
  • Reduce no-shows and optimise underutilised classes
  • Postpone or cancel capital building programmes, saving money
  • Search and filter capabilities make it easy to compare different classes. See lost capacity in terms of empty seats or empty hours
  • View detailed reports per class, giving you essential usage information by week, type, location, day or time
  • Get to-the-minute accuracy stats on occupancy, enabling you to manage workspace in realtime.  Use digital displays with heatmaps to show students where space is available
  • Reports can be shared in a split second, meaning stakeholders are always up to date
